Kevin Wilson, Jr.

Kevin Wilson, Jr. is a New York-based director whose work hits you right in the chest, from Oscar-nominated short films to award-winning commercial campaigns. A North Carolina native, he earned an MFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. His short film My Nephew Emmett, based on the true story of Emmett Till, received an Academy Award nomination and won a Student Academy Award, making film school a fairly productive investment.

Since then, Kevin has directed campaigns for brands including McDonald’s, Marvel, Meta, and Crown Royal, as well as Widen the Screen, Procter & Gamble’s acclaimed campaign challenging Hollywood’s portrayal of Black representation on screen. The film premiered during the Academy Awards, earned a Silver Cannes Lion, and now lives permanently in MoMA’s collection, which is a pretty good place for a commercial to retire.

Most recently, Kevin directed episodes of Netflix’s Chef’s Table and Untold: The Rise and Fall of AND1. He is also a proud member of the Academy and BAFTA, which now means awards season comes with a little homework.
